FAQ's
Here is a list of some common questions and answers you may have. Please contact me if you have any further questions either via phone 07747 010201 or by email.
Q I haven't got a piano or room for one - is there anything I can do?
A You don't need a real or full size piano, especially at first. Keyboards come in all sizes and prices. You can buy an inexpensive keyboard which could be kept in your child's or spare room.
Q What age can children start lessons?
A You are the best judge of your child of course but generally I wouldn't recommend formal lessons until about the age of six.
Q Can I wait with my child?
A Of course. There is an adjoining room available for you to sit in during the lesson.
Q Have you been CRB checked?
A No - it is not possible to check yourself if you are self employed even if you work with children. This is the rule and is stated clearly on the CRB website here CRB website. However, your child will not be out of your sight during the lesson should you wish to wait.
Q Can you come to us to teach?
A In certain circumstance yes. I do prefer to teach at home because the time spent traveling reduces the time I can spend teaching. However if you have two children (or more) who wish to have lessons consecutively then I will come to you if you live locally (The Rock area). I will also travel a reasonable distance to teach a child with a disability that affects their ability to get about.
Q Can my child gain qualifications?
A Yes, I have experience teaching the Associated Board syllabus so your child can gain recognized qualifications.
Q What style of music do you teach?
A I can teach classical or modern, whichever is preferred. The most important thing is to play what you enjoy and so the choice is yours.
Q Is it just for children?
A No! Anyone can learn to play. Perhaps you are a mum whose children are now at school with some free time (at last!!!) Anyone can learn, its never too late.
